The University of Ovidius in Constanta is a state medical school that was founded, as a distinctive and independent structure of the University "Ovidius" Constanţa, under the name of Faculty of General Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy in 1990, by the HGR no. 225/7.03.1990 and the Order no. 7424 from 20.03.1990.

Since its beginning, the Faculty of Medicine has undergone through progressive and remarkable landmarks. |

|
| |
One of the most important events in the Academic life of the Faculty of Medicine Constanţa took place in October 2008 when, under the auspices of the President of Romania, it was inaugurated the new Campus of the Faculty, the largest and the most modern in Romania and South-East Europe, with a developed surface of about 12000 m². |
|

|
|
| |
Since 1993, the Faculty of Medicine started the modules of teaching in English and French language at all levels and specializations, both undergraduate and postgraduate. |
|
| |
|
|
| |
In present, more than 200 foreign students are enrolled in undergraduate and postgraduate study in English medium. Some examples of countries of origin consist of: India, Sri Lanka, Norway, Denmark, Sweden, France, USA, Great Britain, Nigeria, Cameroon, Egypt, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, Morocco, Syria and many more. |

The Faculty of Medicine has significant resources for the training of foreign students through:
- academic program in English medium between 1993-2003 with graduation between 1999-2003; since 2005, the Faculty of Medicine re-started the medical training in English medium;
- all the actual Curricula and Syllabus in English;
- academic staff with competence of teaching in English, granted by certificate of proficiency in English;
- books and Lecture notes in English;
- academic teaching program in perfect concordance with the EU requirements and Curricula.

The academic curricula provides 6 years of study with 360 credits ECTS (60 credits per year of study), shared in two complementary levels: level one includes first 2 years with 120 credits and the second level of 4 years with 240 credits; both include a minimum of 5500 theoretical and practice hours and are finalized with a medical degree. |

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS |

The admission requirements are the one respecting the Romanian and E.U. laws and regulations, respectively a High School graduation with a minimum of 50% marks in the following disciplines: Biology, Physics and Chemistry. APPLICANTS FROM INDIA SHOULD ALSO MEET THE MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS OF THE MEDICAL COUNCIL OF INDIA. |

The admissions are conditioned by the issuance of the Letter of acceptance, granted by the Romanian Ministry of Education, Research and Innovation. In order to obtain the Letter of acceptance, the application should be accompanied by the following documentation, as authenticated translations in a language widely spread internationally: |

| |
- Photocopy or authenticated copy of the certificate of studies;
- Authenticated copy of the birth certificate;
- Authenticated copy of the passport + two passport photos;
- Medical certificate;
The list of results of the completed study years (Academic Transcripts) for postgraduate studies applicants and for those wishing to continue studies begun in other countries. |

The Letter of acceptance, is a condition not only for the enrolment but also for the granting of the entry visa into Romania, when necessary. |
|

Upon arrival, the applicant will attend a test of proficiency in English Language or, if the country of origin is an official English speaking country, he/she will provide a Certificate of proficiency in English. |

The academic training program of the Faculty of Medicine Constanţa is designed to ensure graduates have the ability to: |

- Understand the disease , its prevention, identification, and management;
- Promote the maintenance of health status;
- Take responsibility for personal learning and the development of skills of continuing education;
- Engage in productive professional partnerships

The standards of the academic curricula are: |

- The compulsory specialty disciplines represents 75% of the total amount of hours;
- The fundamental disciplines (anatomy, physics, chemistry) represent 15 % of the total amount of hours;
- The complementary disciplines represent 10 % of the total amount of hours.

The ratio between lecture/practice is:

As mentioned, in October 2008 was inaugurated the new Campus of the Faculty; the total surface of about 12000 m² transforms the faculty into the largest and the most modern in Romania and South-East Europe. |
|

The teaching areas includes:
- over 40 laboratories and 15 rooms for the preparation of materials;
- 3 amphitheatres of 130 m² each, with 140 seats;
- 5 amphitheatres of 80 m² each with for 90 seats;
library of about 200 m², with Internet access. |

In addition to those mentioned above, the clinical specialty activity is performed within the departments of 4 clinical hospitals within the city. |

All the departments are using leading edge instructional design and modern systems for maximum effectiveness and efficiency. |

The academic spaces are accompanied by accommodation spaces. These are represented by 4 dormitories, two of them brand new (the newest was inaugurated in 2006) and two other fully renovated. All four respect the international standards in domain and include modern facilities such as private bathrooms, kitchenette and other administrative spaces, lecture rooms and full Internet access. |

The Academic program of the Faculty of Medicine is supported by 209 didactic positions, from which 170 are covered with fully employed teachers. |
|

|

| |
Among the 170 teachers, the Staff of the Faculty of Medicine is distributed as follows:
- 27 professors;
- 20 lecturers;
- 51 lectors;
- 72 assistants and young debutants (preparatory position). |

|
|
| |
In order to complete and support the academic and the research activities, the teaching staff is accompanied by a reasonable number of laboratory employees and other administrative positions. |

Within these relations, the Faculty of Medicine Constanţa exchanged a significant number of students and professors with the above mentioned structures, all based on the ECTS system. |

Also, a large amount of professors are members of the national and international professional associations. In addition to that, a significant number of members of our staff are included into the leading structures of this associations or into the editorial committees of their journals. In the same time, the Faculty of Medicine organized a large number of scientific meetings, many of them of international amplitude. |
